This Privacy Notice describes the policies and practices of Institute of Interpreting and Translation LLC, doing business as the Horizon Interpreting & Translation Institute, and the Horizon Immigration Institute, its affiliates and subsidiaries (collectively, the “Institute,” “Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), regarding the collection and use of your personal information, as well as your rights relating to that information when you access or use our websites, software, applications, content, products, courses, seminars, webinars, workshops, trainings, conferences, presentations, coaching, memberships, books, materials, platforms, tools, interpretation and translation services, and services in any format or channel, now known or hereafter devised (“Products”).

1.  Children's Privacy. 

You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to use our Products. By accessing or using our Products, you represent that you are at least 18 years old. The Institute of Interpreting and Translation, LLC does not knowingly solicit, collect, or receive personal information directly from children. In particular, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of thirteen (13) in accordance with applicable laws, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

2.  How We Collect and Use (Process) Your Personal Information. 

The Institute collects personal information from consumers, members, and users who interact with our Products in connection with their operation, provision, and delivery. We may collect personal information directly from you, automatically through the use of our websites, platforms, or Products, or from third parties when necessary to provide our Products. We may also collect your personal data from a third-party website (e.g. LinkedIn) if you enroll in any of our programs, register for an event, or submit a form on our website requesting information, content, or services.


The Institute does not sell personal information. We share personal information with third-parties who facilitate the operations of the Institute, and the provision and delivery of our Products and other services.

3.  Use of the Institutetranslator.com Website. 

As is true of most other websites, the Institute’s website collects certain information automatically. The information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, the region or general location where your computer or device is accessing the internet, browser type, operating system and other usage information about the use of the Institute’s website, including a history of the pages you view. We use this information to help us design our site to better suit our users’ needs. We may also use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our website, analyze trends, track visitor movements, and gather broad demographic information that assists us in identifying visitor preferences.


The Institute has a legitimate interest in understanding how customers and potential customers use its website. This assists the Institute with providing more relevant products and services, with communicating value to our clients, and with providing appropriate staffing to meet member and customer needs.

These technologies allow us to recognize your device, remember your preferences, track your activity on our platforms, and provide services such as online courses, webinars, and account functionality.


We may use cookies and similar technologies to operate and maintain our websites and learning platforms, enable login and account functionality, track course progress and platform usage, measure website and platform performance, improve user experience and service quality, and support our marketing and communications activities (which may include non-targeted informational communications about our services and programs).

Our websites and platforms may collect information about your interactions with our Products, including when you log into your account, access courses, webinars, workshops, or other learning content, or visit marketing landing pages or submit forms. We may also record third-party websites visited when users click hyperlinks from our Products. However, we do not track users across unrelated websites, we do not serve targeted advertising, and we do not currently respond to Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals.

5.  Third-Party Cookies. 

Some cookies may be set by third-party service providers that support our Products, such as payment processors, learning management systems, analytics providers, and cloud service providers. These third-parties may collect information in accordance with their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites.

6.  Sharing your Information. 

Information related to your account, enrollments, purchases, course participation, interaction with our Products, and interpretation or translation services may be maintained in association with your user account or service records. Personal information we collect may be stored in databases hosted by third-party service providers, including cloud storage providers, learning management systems, and payment processors. These third-parties are authorized to access personal information only as necessary to provide services on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own independent purposes except as permitted by law.


In connection with providing interpretation and translation services, we may share personal information and submitted documents with translators, interpreters, contractors, or service providers engaged by the Institute to perform services on our behalf. Such individuals or entities may require access to the information or documents you provide in order to complete the requested services.

 

We may disclose personal information to third-parties in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent or at your direction, including when you request services that require sharing information with instructors, translators, interpreters, or other professionals providing services on our behalf.
  • To provide our services, including sharing information with instructors, interpreters, translators, contractors, or vendors who assist in delivering courses, training programs, events, professional language services, or other Products.
  • With service providers and vendors who perform functions on our behalf, including website hosting providers, cloud storage providers, payment processors, learning management systems, analytics providers, and customer support services.
  • To improve our services, offerings, or the Institute as a whole, including platform performance, course design, training programs, overall user experience, and training our staff to deliver better educational and language services.
  • To comply with legal obligations, such as responding to subpoenas, court orders, legal processes, or lawful requests by government authorities.
  • To enforce our agreements, including our Terms and Conditions, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Institute, our employees, clients, students, or others.
  • To address emergencies, fraud prevention, or security incidents, including circumstances involving potential threats to safety or property.
  • In connection with disputes, claims, or legal proceedings, including sharing information with legal counsel, auditors, banks, insurers, or individuals demonstrating legal authority to act on your behalf.
  • In connection with business transactions, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or similar transaction, where personal information may be transferred as part of the transaction.

 

We may also compile aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information about our users, students, and website visitors and share such information with partners, service providers, or other third-parties for research, statistical analysis, or marketing purposes. Such information does not identify individual users.

7.  Transferring Personal Data to the U.S.

The Institute has its headquarters in the United States. Information we collect about you will be processed in the United States. By using the Institute’s Products, you acknowledge that your personal information will be processed in the United States and, depending on the circumstances, that may involve a transfer of your information to the United States.

8. Security of your Information. 

The Institute takes the protection of personal information seriously and uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, consistent with normal business practices for a company of our size and resources, to help protect the information you provide through our websites, platforms, and Products.


Access to personal information is generally limited to employees, contractors, or service providers who need it to perform their job functions, deliver services, or support our operations.


While we implement appropriate security measures, no system or method of transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Accordingly, the Institute cannot ensure or warrant the absolute security of any information you provide, and use of our websites, platforms, or services is at your own risk.

9.  Retention of Information.  

The Institute retains data for the duration of the customer’s business relationship with the Institute and for a period of time thereafter to provide our Products, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, for our own operations, or for other legitimate business purposes.

10.  Changes to This Privacy Notice. 

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, policies, legal requirements, or Products. Updates will be effective upon posting or distribution. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
